Q&A: Is anyone familiar with hotels in London?

Question by Geo: Is anyone familiar with hotels in London?
I’m planning a week trip to Europe, and my first destination will be 3 days in London. I’m looking for a hotel that is nice, but affordable (no more than 250 a night). It shouldn’t be a really fancy 5 star hotel, just a place to stay for a few days that isn’t a shithole. Preferably in a good location around nightlife, tourist spots and such.

Any ideas?

I was just in the Hilton London Metropole New Years. It was a package, so I don’t know how much it cost, but the rooms are nice and there is a tube station across the street.

Does anyone know about how much Hotels are in London, near Heathrow Airport or near the O2 arena? Also, would you suggest booking early im going either in August or September. Thanks so much any advice would be much appreciated.

Book as early as possible, high summer is the height of the tourist season.

If you stay near Heathrow you will have a long and expensive journey into London itself.

Get a copy of The Rough Guide to London, that has lots of good advice and hotel details that you will need.

Some advice: Don’t take or wear expensive jewellery or watches when you go. buy a watch and leave any gold chains or diamond studs back home, thieves around London can spot tourists a mile away and will snatch good stuff in broad daylight.

Another thing: Try and consult a map in your room before you go out, if you HAVE to check whilst out, either pop into a pub or cafe and do it over a coffee, or turn your back to the street and keep the map low, not spread out.

Sorry, don’t mean to worry you, just avoid the neon “I’m a tourist – rob me” signatures!

5 Stars – Luxury hotels: Treat yourself well with first-class services and accommodations. The hotel decor usually creates an elegant ambience from the lobby to each individual guest room or suite. Hotel restaurants are often renown for their famous chefs and delectable dishes and are usually located in the most desirable locations in major cities and resort areas. Other amenities include: valet parking, concierge service, room service, well-equipped fitness centers and state-of-the-art business centers.

4 Stars – Deluxe/upscale hotels: Find comfort, class and quality that you can count on. These hotels will usually be in a prime location and other amenities may include: proximity to desirable shopping areas and restaurants, valet parking, concierge service, room service, well-equipped fitness centers and state-of-the-art business centers. These properties may be newly constructed or recently renovated, and offer tasteful decor in each room or suite.

3 Stars – Mid-scale hotels: Discover convenience and comfort in the city or in the suburbs where many of these properties are located. Amenities that may be available include: swimming pools, fitness centers, room service, concierge service and parking. Often you’ll find these properties located near highways and office complexes. Rooms and lobbies are nicely furnished, and restaurants are usually located at the property.

2 Stars – Value Properties: Get back to basics with these comfortable properties that offer affordable prices. These properties are often located near office parks, airports, and shopping and retail areas. Rooms are comfortably decorated but not overly elegant. Usually, these properties do not have restaurants or room service, but offer free parking and sometimes, swimming pools. Transportation is occasionally offered to nearby airports.

1 Star – Economy Hotels & Motels: Stay in simple accommodations that typically are located near major highways and transportation. Amenities include free parking, local calls and cable television. Restaurants are often located nearby, and room service is usually not available. Some economy hotels and motels have swimming pools located on the property.

Anyone recommend a cheap UK/France family holiday?

Question by Emma.L: Anyone recommend a cheap UK/France family holiday?
I am looking for somewhere cheap in the UK or France to go on a family holiday.
Me and my partner have a 14 month old daughter we would love to take her away somewhere and have some quality family time its just hard trying to do it on a budget, can anyone recommend anywhere for us? Thanks :)

if you keep your eyes open for deals at Disneyland Paris you can sometimes get cheap prices … however they are usually available off-season so there might not be many around right at the moment … the same goes with places like Butlins and Haven … and of course collecting Sun vouchers etc when they’re available is great … the advantage of these types of places is that they would have activities that your little one would enjoy, and if the little one is enjoying herself then so will you

Does anyone know of any good London Hotels with a cancellation policy of 24 hours or less.?

Question by iris920523: Does anyone know of any good London Hotels with a cancellation policy of 24 hours or less.?
What I mean is a cancellation policy without a payment penalty – thank you.

The milennium hotel chain has a cancellation policy of 14:00 on the day of arrival for their rooms (you have to take out the standard price – not the advanced purchase though!)

The milennium chain, in my opinion, is a very very good quality hotel. I’ve stayed at the Milennium Gloucester London, and I would recommend it to anyone. Prices are around £120-150 per night depending when/how far in advance you book.

What do you think? Answer below!
